Cannot Brain Today

Three hundred and thirty six hours, that is the total number of hours in a two-week period. That is also how long I have been sitting in one place in front of my computer, suffering from brain drain, writers block, Bloggers block, verbal constipation and at times feelings of hopelessness, uselessness, and I could carelessness. I made that last one up by the way.  I have also visited a discussion I started about three weeks ago called “ Yea for health care reform” and have been amazed at the uproar I seemed to have created among several people who seem hell bent to out argue the amount of time that Congress spent discussing the issues. I suppose if I wanted to get big numbers of visitors to my website, I would have stayed involved in the debate. However, I stated my belief, “Yea for healthcare reform” But this issue has nothing to do with, or at least very little to do with my brain lock. Though watching the debate rage day after day was amazing. Seems to me the answer is simple. If I help one child, one old person, one ill person, one person with a pre diagnosed illness that lost their health insurances then again I say Yeah for Healthcare reform, even if it cost me a little bit more. I suggest that anyone who does not think a child deserves all the help we can give them should go sit for a couple of hours as I have done in a children’s Cancer ward, and see the looks on the faces topped by bald heads and eyes without eye brows caused by chemo therapy and radiation that make the scared eyes look even more frightened and larger than life, but not larger than the illness trying to take away that young life. In addition, most of these children are getting the best care. Then as you are looking at these little ones and realize they may never see their high school prom, or have a wife or husband and children. And as you realize these are the ones getting good care. Imagine the ones who do not have the care they need and then tell me the few pennies more it may cost you each year is not worth it. If you can do that, you have nothing but my pity.

But as I said, that is just one reason that I have been sitting here for three hundred and thirty six hours with my brain exploding. Anyone who has followed my blog with some regularity knows that I have a passion, compulsion, drive, and some could, and probably do say lunacy about life, and the saving of all the life that exists on earth.  That being true, of course it would then follow that we must also save the earth, otherwise we would just be standing somewhere in space and since we don’t think we can do that we better save all of earth along with life.

I have written about the plight of the North Atlantic Humpback Whale, the Dolphins of Taji Japan, and the Bison of Yellowstone National Park. Bison is the correct name for them and they are the only full-blooded Bison left in this country, a true part of American history. All the rest are buffalo. A buffalo is crossbred with a cow and is not a true Bison. I have written about global warming, global freezing, war, peace, health, illness, and the poor the lonely, hell I am starting to sound like a talking Statue of Liberty. And then KA BOOM my brain exploded.

I have often related the story of the boy on the beach-throwing star fish back in the ocean, when the old man says “why are you bothering you can’t possibly save them all” The boy responds “No I can’t but I sure made a difference to this one”, as he tosses another back into the sea. The advantage the boy had over me was that he had only the Star Fish on his mind. For me it seems that if the dolphins make it, the Tigers of India need help, if the tigers of India make it, the African Elephants are in trouble, If the elephant makes it the Polar bear is in danger and so on and so on and … KA BOOM! Exploding Brain.

I knew this before, but as I sat here for three hundred and thirty six hours not knowing which cause or what to write about, it also became clear again that I was never going to make any money writing about things that people did not want to hear about. That is not to say all people; I have found many good ones out there. Many people do care and you know who you are. But let’s face it, the plight of the Red Eyed Tree Frog of Central and South American is never going to garner the attention of say a blog about How to Stuff A turkey” Or turning your garage garbage into cash. There is nothing wrong with such articles. I am simply stating a fact. I know that people need to know how to stuff a turkey.

I was told once by a writer friend that if you get writers block and do not know what to write, then write whatever is on your mind, and so I have. Now before I go back to staring at my PC for another three hundred and thirty six hours, and watching the battle rage at my discussion “Yea for Health Care”. I will end with this thought, which brought me out of my recent shell. It is from Cyril Connolly “Better to write for yourself and have no public than to write for the public and have no self”
